Keeping a positive outlook when diagnosed with endometriosis

Keeping a positive outlook when diagnosed with endometriosis

When you’re diagnosed with endometriosis you have to brace yourselves for significant changes in life. From career to your personal relationships there are a lot of tough conversations and adjustments that need to be made. Through all this, it is our positive attitude that keeps us strong. Keeping a positive outlook on the situation increases the quality of life with endometriosis by leaps and bounds.

 Having the conversation

Telling others about your chronic disease is not always the easiest thing in the world. Many people do not understand and it often seems like no one cares about what you are going through. Keeping a positive attitude while having a conversation about endometriosis with your friends, family members, or at the office with colleagues, managers, or bosses can have a positive outcome. People can surprise you with compassion and understanding.

Over time you would learn what to tell and what to keep to yourselves. You will understand how to convey the symptoms you are going through. Making a safe space for yourselves becomes easier, at work and at home. You might surprise yourselves with humor about your condition as well. All this starts with a positive outlook that people will understand your situation when you tell them about it. Do not shy away from it.

 Support groups

Having performed numerous Laparoscopic excision surgeries on many people in pain, I understand that it is not always easy to have a positive outlook on life. The situation is worse for people in advanced stages of endometriosis. This is where support groups play a crucial role. Whether online or in person, support groups are a great source of positivity.

Use support groups on websites like Facebook or Reddit to share your story. You will find many others who are going through the same conditions as you are. There is immense potential to find positive emotions and develop a positive attitude through support groups. Use them to your advantage.

 Emotional support is important

We keep saying, in endometriosis parlance, that you need to find a doctor who is experienced and an expert. A good doctor will know that endometriosis affects you physically as well as mentally.

You have little control over endometriosis. It is an unwanted visitor that you cannot make it to leave on will. However, you can embrace the situation and work on coping strategies that will maximize your quality of life. Being positive is one of them!
