Endometriosis and intimacy

Living with endometriosis is not only a challenging condition for the individual experiencing but said individual, her partner and her relationship.

Research shows that two-thirds of women with endometriosis report sexual issues. This can cause turmoil and stress in relationships.

But it need not be that way!

From fostering open communication to practicing emotional intelligence, you can strengthen your bond with your partner and emerge stronger on the other side by conquering its obstacles together!

  1. Create safe spaces to cultivate open communication

Express your feelings, concerns, and physical limitations with your partner. This will also help you understand each other’s needs and boundaries.

  1. Educate Your Partner:

Don’t feel shy to educate your partner about endometriosis and its impact on your body.

Share educational resources and encourage your partner to attend your gynecological appointments with you as it can help him/her gain a better understanding of your condition.

  1. Explore other forms of intimacy

Every woman is different. Many women do not experience pain during penetration but they can experience it after intercourse.

Nevertheless, focusing on non-sexual forms of intimacy, such as hugging and other forms of foreplay, can help you bond with your partner.

  1. Spend quality time with your partner

Try doing your hobbies and activities together more often! For e.g, go on hikes and get a couple’s massage.

  1. Seek professional help

Do not be afraid to consult a sex therapist or a relationship coach if you need help as they can provide personalized advice for both you and your partner.

  1. More importantly, do not rush intimacy because you feel guilty!

To sum it up, it’s important to understand that intimacy transcends beyond the physical realm. By working as a team, you can form a deeper and more fulfilling relationship with your partner.
